The Post Graduate Students’ Union (PGSU) of Gauhati University has urged the Assam government to offer relief to students staying on rent.
The union raised concerns on the economically-downtrodden parents whose income has been affected because of the lockdown.
“Students of various universities and educational institutes of the state also stay on rent or in paying guest facilities. It would be helpful if the government could find ways to exempt rent for students for April and May,” PGSU general secretary Moon Talukdar said.
The PGSU further lauded all efforts of the state government to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus and urged it to set certain regulations on house rent.
Talukdar said the PGSU and students union of various universities are mulling on a memorandum to the state chief minister and education minister on house rent issue.
Over 800 students of Gauhati University stay on rent.
