Stiff opposition from a section of students and the ministry of home affairs (MHA) consolidated guidelines suspending all educational institutions till May 3 notwithstanding, the Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE) will go ahead with its decision to resume board examination for class XII in arts, science and commerce streams.
A notification issued by the board on Friday said the High School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examination, which is to re-commence from April 22 to 24, will be conducted in all the examination centres across the state.
On Tuesday, the MBSE notified re-commencement of the board exams from April 22.
The board also issued a notification informing the students to appear at the nearest centre or their any centre of their choice.
Education minister Lalchhandama Ralte announced the resumption on Wednesday stating that it was inevitable as the board exam was abruptly suspended due to imposition of the nationwide lockdown.
He said the cabinet and a meeting of all political parties, NGOs, churches and student bodies on Monday suggested the re-commencement of the board exams. Ralte said nearly 4,700 students are yet to complete their board exams.
On Thursday, a group of students launched a no-exam campaign on Instagram and other social media platforms demanding the postponement of the re-scheduled exams.
The students complained that many of them, who left the state and those who already camping in their villages after the nationwide lockdown, will face inconvenience due to restricted transport movement.
Siaha district deputy commissioner Bhupesh Chaudhary on Thursday wrote to the comptroller of examinations informing that the notification was a clear violation of the MHA guidelines and therefore no board exam within Siaha district would be allowed.
In its consolidated guidelines issued to contain the spread of novel coronavirus on April 15, the MHA said that all educational, training, coaching institutions, among others, would remain suspended till May 3.
The order also stated that states or Union Territories should not dilute the guidelines in any manner.
