Janmoni, 20, a resident of Saphakati, Ghogora Gaon, of the Bogibeel area in Dibrugarh district of Upper Assam, is the only daughter of Monomoti and Kiran Gogoi. Her father has been able ailing for the past 18 years and cannot walk. Her helps her mother sell vegetables at Borbaruah market in Jamira to run the family. Since they cannot go to the market during the lockdown, she decided to sell vegetables from door to door on a bicycle. Janmoni has a dream -- to pursue higher education. She has completed her higher secondary from Dibrugarh Government Girls’ HS School.

Dibrugarh deputy superintendent of police (headquarters) Pallavi Mazumdar, who handed the moped to Janmoni at the girl’s residence, said, “We got to know about Janmoni from media. Under Dibrugarh SP Sreejith T, we decided to help her but she refused to take any monetary help from us. She has self-respect and didn’t want any help from us. Then we decided to give her a moped which will help her to ferry vegetables. We are proud of her. She is a true inspiration for others.”

Janmoni told this correspondent that she was happy at having received the moped from Dibrugarh police as it would ease her problem of ferrying vegetables. “The moped will help me to easily cover the distance I travelled on my cycle to sell vegetables,” she said.
