Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday evening chaired a high-level meeting where various aspects of lockdown extension and how to get the stranded back home were discussed.
“How to handle the relaxations during the lockdown extension and how to get the stranded back dominated the discussions,” an official said.
Senior ministers Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chandra Mohan Patowary, chief secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna and director-general of police Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta attended the meeting.
Earlier in the day, Sonowal discussed issues related to tea garden workers with representatives of Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha in Dibrugarh, its general secretary Rupesh Gowala said. The ACMS handed over Rs 1.25 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Sonowal has directed deputy commissioners to ensure labourers in the 14 ATCL gardens and in other small tea gardens do not face any difficulty during the lockdown.
