The upper districts of Arunachal Pradesh, which are dependent on supply of vegetables from Assam are facing scarcity of food during the lockdown period.
To overcome the crisis, Aalo East MLA Kento Jini took the initiative with the help of the district administration to collect vegetables produced locally from Nyiko Bango for sale in the townships.
The agriculture department has been entrusted to bring vegetables.
Jini donated Rs 100,000 to the government’s funds to fight the coronaviurus pandemic.
Nyamar Karbak, MLA, Liromoba and minister Tumke Bagra donated Rs 50,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.
The Arunachal Pradesh Public Works Department Employees’ Union has donated Rs 30,000.
Residents of Kabu, Darka, Rigo and Kamdi villages are also ready to pitch in to bring vegetables phase-wise for sale to reduce dependence on Assam for supply.
Senior citizens contributed masks, hand sanitisers, food items and energy drinks to the superintendent of police, Aalo and the district medical officer Aalo.
Meanwhile, a team of doctors, headed by district medical officer Dr Moli Riba, is still continuing sanitization at various places.
Altogther 106 people out of 459 have completed the quarantine period. Sufficient beds have been made ready at quarantine centres.
