Assam Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi on Friday challenged the BJP-led state government’s move to prosecute him for “pointing out the tip of the iceberg of a huge electoral bond racket”.
Borodoloi, one of the seniormost Congress leaders from the state renominated to contest the Lok Sabha polls from the Nagaon constituency, was reacting to a post from the Assam chief minister’s office threatening legal action against him for his claim about the election bond data disclosed on the direction of the Supreme Court.
The Congress leader post was a reaction to a post by an X user who had uploaded a newspaper report about the Assam government signing an MoU with Bright Star Investments, Mumbai.
The same post also showed the company purportedly donating Rs 10 crore to the BJP via electoral bonds on May 8, 2019.
According to the media report, published on November 4, 2022, the MoU was signed between Assam government secretary commissioner — secretary Siddharth Singh and promoter-founder of Bright Star Investments Pvt. Ltd. Radhakrishnan Damani for the development of the academic block of the second medical college here.
