Assam PCC president Ripun Bora on Sunday held a meeting with his party workers here and discussed strategies for the ensuing panchayat polls.
In the evening, he addressed a news conference at Bongaigaon circuit house and briefed reporters about his party’s Shakti and Lok Sampark Abhiyan campaigns.
Shakti, which was launched on September 29, is a membership drive of the party.
The campaign allows one to join the Congress by giving a missed call to a mobile phone number, Bora said.
“The party is making efforts to reach out to people at the grassroots to strengthen its base through the Lok Sampark Abhiyan,” he added.
The party has planned to perform better in the panchayat polls, Bora said.
Lack of development and price rise of essential commodities will be the main issues in the panchayat polls, he said.
On the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, Bora said his party was committed to follow the Assam Accord.
He slammed the BJP and the AGP for their “double standard role” on the issue.
Bora also visited Bagheswari temple.
