A woman from neighbouring Assam has lodged a complaint with Union home minister Amit Shah against the Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations, an umbrella of pro-ILP organisations, and demanded the group be disbanded.
In the complaint lodged on Friday, Gayatri Borpatra Gohain noted the confederation, which had no authority from the law or police, had infringed upon the fundamental rights of Indian citizens by “manhandling” them on the pretext of checking inner-line permit (ILP) from February 12.
“Taking law into their own hands is grossly illegal and not supported by the law of the land. They cannot shield their illegal activities as repercussions against inaction of the government regarding the ILP issue to suit their own cause. The ILP is not a matter to be handled by CoMSO or for that matter any other organisation or federation on their own whims and fancies. It is a matter to be left alone to be dealt with by the government,” the complainant said.
Gayatri also spoke about the two incidents of arson in the city where two confederation members were arrested.
Moreover, she claimed that Pranjal Nath was assaulted in the city by goons just because he was speaking Assamese.
The offences, she said, are punishable under Sections 435, 352, 355, 153, 153A, 153B, 147, 148, 149, 186, 190, 295A, 298, 324, 325, 326, 336, 337, 341 IPC.
“Immediate cognisance of the said matter is essential under National Investigation Agency Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act to not only disband and curb the notorious activities of CoMSO against fellow citizens, but also in the interest of protecting national security. Though these may seem to be isolated incidents, one such spark is enough to provoke communal disharmony and dilute peace and pose great threat to the law-and-order situation in the state,” she added.
