Narayan Konwar, the director of census operations, Assam has reviewed the work at the office of the Dhubri deputy commissioner here on Wednesday.
The census is being conducted under Census Act 1948 and Census Rules 1990 in two phases. The first phase involves house listing and housing census while the second stage is population enumeration.
The initial work for the census 2021 has been started throughout the country.
In a press release on Wednesday signed by Narayan Konwar, director of census operations, Assam, said in Assam, the house listing and housing census will be conducted across the state from April 20 and will be completed in a month.
The population enumeration work will be held from February 9 to 28, 2021, along with a revision round which will commence from March 1 to 5.
This will be the first census to be conducted digitally (through a mobile App), said Konwar.
“In this census, the enumerators are encouraged to collect data digitally from the households by using their own mobile phone. In the first phase, the enumerators will be basically collecting data on housing conditions, household amenities and assets accordingly,” said the release.
The training of master trainers of different districts is already complete.
In Dhubri district, two master trainers will train 53 field trainers, who will in turn train 510 supervisors and 3,052 enumerators engaged for the purpose.
In Dhubri district, the appointment of different census officials will begin at 14 charge offices under the principal census officer-cum-deputy commissioner of Dhubri, Ananta Lal Gyani.
Konwar also sought the people’s cooperation to provide the correct facts and figures to collect accurate census data.
The 2021 census will be the 16th census in the country and eighth after Independence.
The Indian census has a history of 150 years providing micro-level data on various parameters.
