Dalmia Cement is the first and only cement manufacturer in the Northeast to roll out its first batch of specialised oil well cement (OWC) on Thursday.

The cement has been produced at their plant at Khliehriat in Meghalaya.

Rolling out the first batch of oil well cement, Sunil Aggarwal, executive director, Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited, said the company is delighted to produce and supplying the first batch of oil well cement in Meghalaya. It has four plants in Assam and Meghalaya with a total installed capacity of 4.1 million metric tonnes.

“This is one of the many firsts for the company and we have successfully been able to establish ourselves as the market leader in the region. Our first batch of 150 metric tonnes of oil well cement produced at Umsoo Mootang, Khliehriat plant in Meghalaya, was delivered to our client today and we are grateful to them for showing their confidence in us,” he said.

Aggarwal said there is high demand for oil well cement and this new production facility will help serve regional demand more efficiently as it will reduce the delivery time.

“This new facility will primarily help cater to projects across Assam, Tripura and Mizoram as well as markets in Myanmar and Bangladesh,” he added.

Oil well cement is a product designed in a manner for cementing onshore and offshore wells under high temperatures and high pressure. Dalmia Cement is the largest supplier of specialised oil well cement in India and is the country’s first to receive the prestigious American Petroleum Institute (API) certification.

The company said there is high demand for oil well cement.

Aggarwal said it is the oldest manufacturers of oil well cement in the country and the Dalmiapuram plant in Tamil Nadu has been supplying the product to Duliajan in Assam since 1985.
