Congress Lok Sabha MP and convener of the North East Congress Coordination Committee (NECCC), Pradyut Bordoloi, said on Sunday that he had written to his fellow MPs to support the demand for a discussion on the Manipur situation in the Parliament session beginning on July 20.

Tweeting his July 1 letter to all his colleagues in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, the Assam MP and four-time MLA urged them to “lend their voice” to the demand for a discussion on the Manipur crisis that started on May 3 following a solidarity rally in the hill districts against the majority Meitei demand for ST status.

In his four-para letter to the MPs, Bordoloi said: “With the Monsoon Session of Parliament approaching, I urge you to consider raising a demand for a discussion in Parliament on the ensuing crisis in Manipur and hope that MPs across party and state lines will pursue various legislative interventions seeking accountability from the Union and State Governments for their actions.”

“By doing so, you will not only bring the situation to the forefront of national discourse but also provide a platform for discussions, debates, and ultimately, viable solutions to resolve the conflict,” he wrote.

Asserting that the ongoing crisis has “severely affected” education, healthcare, and livelihoods of people living in Manipur, Bordoloi said: “In this time of crisis, I request you to use your platform as an MP which carries weight and influence, to amplify this issue both inside and outside Parliament so that it may receive sufficient national attention.”

Apart from Bordoloi’s appeal, the Manipur Congress unit is also “collecting all data and figures” on the crisis for the “understanding” of the central leadership so that the issue can be forcefully raised in Parliament, Manipur PCC working president K. Devabrata Singh said.
