The deputy Speaker of the Bodoland Territorial Council and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) candidate for Bhergaon BTC constituency, Nerswn Boro, exuded confidence that the Hagrama Mohilary-led party will form the government for the fourth consecutive term, winning more than 32 seats out of 40.

Boro also lambasted the All Bodo Students’ Union (Absu) and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), alleging that they have been misleading the common people of the Bodo belt and want to gain political mileage out of the Bodo accord which is just a truce promising development schemes in the region.

Boro told this correspondent on Monday, “The BPF is synonymous with development, peace and integrity and has been instrumental in developing infrastructure and building universities and colleges in the region since the inception of the BTC in 2003. After the signing of the Bodo pact on January 27 where BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary took a leading role in bringing all the factions of the NDFB to the negotiation table. However, Absu and UPPL are attempting to gain cheap political mileage by misleading the common people against the ruling dispensation.”

“Pramod Boro gave up the Bodoland movement and signed the pact. He said he will work for the people and has no aspirations to be in active politics but now his power hungry and greedy nature is exposed as he is leading the UPPL as its president and contesting the polls,” he said.

BTC chief executive member Mohilary, executive members Rajiv Kumar Brahma, Doneswar Goyary and Derhasat Basumatary, accompanied by thousands of cheering supporters, filed their nomination papers in Kokrajhar on Monday.

Mohilary was confident that the BPF will form the government for the fourth term.

BTC executive member Lwmshrao Daimari also filed his nomination papers at Bhergaon subdivisional officer’s (civil) office in Udalguri district on Monday.

Daimari exuded confidence that the BPF will perform well across the 10 constituencies in Udalguri and the BPF will form the government for the fourth consecutive term.

He said, “The UPPL works for the cause and welfare of a single community, whereas the BPF is committed to the welfare and development of every community residing in the Bodo belt.”

According to the schedule of the general election to the 46-member council of the BTC, the last date of the submission of nominations is March 18.

The returning officer and assistant returning officers will check the nomination forms on March 19. The polling and counting will be held on April 4 and 8 respectively.
