United People’s Party Liberal Pramod Boro has made a fervent appeal to Ulfa (I) and Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) leaders to follow other insurgent groups in joining the mainstream and becoming part of the “peace process”, thereby bringing regional integration.

Addressing a rally for Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) polls at Bangalipara in Kokrajhar district on Saturday, Boro said the present situation calls for peace and integrity among all sections.

He reiterated there was no active militant outfit in the Bodo belt as all four factions of NDFB had disbanded and signed the Bodo accord on January 27 paving the way for lasting peace and progress in the BTAD.

He appealed to all armed insurgent groups of Assam to join the mainstream. He also appealed to the government to adopt policies to resolve the vexed issues of pro-talks and anti-talks groups through dialogue and mediation and bring permanent solution to their demands to ensure an insurgency-free state.

He also reiterated the Bodo belt had the blessings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will turn it into a role model of development, peace and progress in the coming days.

The campaigning for the April 4 BTC polls has been momentum with various parties and organisations, including the ruling BPF, organising election meetings and rallies across the region.

Boro exuded confidence that the masses have given whole-hearted support to the UPPL and it was bound to form the next government .

“We have been working from the booth-level so that our message of peace, progress, integrity and development reaches out to all people. After we are voted to power, we will ensure peace, dignity of life, profession and integrity to the people irrespective of caste, creed and religion, along with monitoring of proper implementation of government schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, MGNREGA, among others,” Boro said.

Boro said it was a good sign the council polls will be a multi-party fight this time, which proved there was a “blooming democracy”. He alleged that certain vested interests are trying to incite violence and exhorted the administration to adopt stringent measures and keep vigil to thwart such attempts and ensure everybody can exercise their franchise without fear or undue influence.
