Assam BJP spokesperson Rupam Goswami exuded confidence that the BJP would form the next government in the Bodoland Territorial Council by winning more than 21 seats.
At Tangla town in Udalguri district on Monday, Goswami, who is also an observer of the Khalingduar BTC constituency, told the media: “The BJP will field candidates in 40 constituencies. People of the Bodo belt have high hopes. We will address their issues by ensuring that the saffron party wins the polls by fielding powerful candidates.”
Goswami said: “We are still in alliance with the BPF and the AGP in Dispur and Delhi. The BJP, AGP and the BPF had contested the panchayat elections separately. Likewise, in the BTC elections as well we will contest separately and the BJP is confident of forming the government.”
Goswami said the BJP’s main electoral plank would be maintenance of peace in the BTC.
To a question regarding possibility of the BJP joining hands with the Pramod Boro-led UPPL, he said: “The elections are yet to be held. Let us wait and see what changes emerge in the political environment.”
