The BJP organised a rally at Chowkidingee playground here on Thursday, addressed by Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, BJP’s Assam in-charge Mahendra Singh and state finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Thousands of party workers from Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur and Jorhat Lok Sabha constituencies came for the rally.
“We will win at least 12 of the 14 Assam seats in the 2019 general elections. We will win with a thumping majority and form the government at the Centre for a second term under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Our party believes in the mantra of collective effort and inclusive growth (sabka saath, sabka vikas),” Sonowal said.
“We gave land patta to landless people and small tea growers of the state, which the Congress could not do in 70 years. On a single day we gave deeds to 11,700 people in the Brahmaputra and Barak valleys. Another 1 lakh people will be provided land deeds within this year. Similarly 1.3 lakh small tea growers will be provided land deeds. We also made the Assam Public Service Commission corruption-free and transparent. Earlier, the Congress government was involved in corruption in the APSC exams. During our tenure, we have given appointment to 55,000 people and delivered our commitment in making our state corruption-free and economically strong,” Sonowal added.
He also paid tributes to the CRPF jawans who were killed in the Pulwama terror attack.
Singh said, “Our booth-level party workers should work hard to make the lotus bloom again in Assam. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we have worked hard for development and for the poor people and introduced many schemes.”
He urged the party workers to work hard for the party as just one-and-a-half months are left for the elections.
Northeast Democratic Alliance (Neda) convener Himanta Biswa Sarma said they should take an oath to bring the BJP back to power in New Delhi because the Prime Minister was working tirelessly for the development of the country.
“The Prime Minister is taking bold steps to root out militancy from Jammu and Kashmir because recently we have lost our jawans in a terror attack. We don’t want Assam to become the next Kashmir,” he said.
Sarma, in a news conference on Thursday, also sought the active participation of the people in the BJP’s Bharat ke Mann ki Baat, Modi ke Saath public outreach programme.
