Dibrugarh BJP MLA Prasanta Phukan claimed that the Congress has joined hands with the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) to turn Assam into Kashmir.

“The birth of AIUDF took place to protect Bangladeshi Muslims who have infiltrated Assam. For the sake of his son Gaurav Gogoi, veteran Congress leader and former chief minister Tarun Gogoi tied up with the AIUDF,” Phukan alleged in a rally with BJP star campaigner and minister of state for heavy industries and public enterprises, Babul Supriyo, here on Tuesday.

Supriyo appealed to the voters to ensure that the BJP candidate from Dibrugarh seat wins by a hefty margin of over 3 lakh votes.

Terming Assam as an extended part of Bengal during an election rally at Shahid Piyali Phukan Field in Tinsukia, Supriyo said, “Saaf niyat, sahi niti agar rahe to kaise sabka saath sabka vikaas ho sakta hain woh BJP ne dikhaya hain (BJP has shown how clean intention and correct policy can deliver all round development of all people).”

“Soon there will be a medical college in the district, besides a Rs 200-crore package allotted for the development of Tinsukia. When you have an honest chief minister like Sarbananda Sonowal and an effective (honhar) cabinet, the people of Assam have witnessed how good work has been done,” Supriyo added.

He said Tinsukia was one of the most revenue-generating districts in India after Mumbai, and compared the population of Tinsukia of having a cosmopolitan mix like that of Mumbai.

Supriyo was accompanied by Assam minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, BJP candidate and sitting MP Rameshwar Teli, Dibrugarh MLA Prashanta Phukan, Tinsukia MLA Sanjoy Kissan, besides several other BJP district-level leaders.

Addressing the rally, Teli said, “We need a Prime Minister like Narendra Modi under whose leadership our forces struck deep inside Pakistan. The Congress and AUIDF have united to stop Modi from becoming Prime Minister.”

“A total of 60 crore voters have benefited from schemes rolled out by the Prime Minister. Even if 50 per cent of them vote for the BJP, we will secure over 300 seats,” Phukan said.

“We shall clean sweep the tea garden belts,” he claimed.
