A motorcyclist was killed and several persons were injured after a bus ran over the motorcycle on Wednesday near Topatoli at Jagiroad in Morigaon district.
The bus carrying around 35 passengers for the 89th session of the Srimanta Sankardev Sangh in Golaghat.
A police officer said rash driving could be the reason behind the accident.
Both the bus and the motorcycle were speeding and a few residents of the area said the bus hit the motorcycle when it changed the lanes without using any indicator.
The residents told the police that although the bus tried to move out of the way, it hit the motorcycle which crashed on the road while the bus lost control and fell into a ditch.
The police on reaching the spot identified the victim as Kamal Boro. Boro’s wife, Priyanka, who was pillion riding, was seriously injured.
Without any delay the police and the residents called for an ambulance and sent the injured woman to the hospital while the people on the bus were rescued by the police.
Several bus passengers received minor injuries in the accident. The police have now initiated an investigation in this connection.
The area is an accident-prone zone and most of the time it is seen that vehicles usually do not follow the basic traffic rules.
In another incident, a body of an infant was recovered from Palashani in Nagaon district.
The body was recovered under a bridge in Palashani.
A local resident said the people living near the area noticed a bag near the bridge and on checking the bag they found the body of the infant.
They immediately informed the police who are trying to trace who abandoned the body there.
The police are investing if the baby died after being thrown into the area or if it had already dead when it was abandoned.
At least, two persons were injured when an auto rickshaw collided with a motor cycle on Wednesday at Agia Godarbori in Goalpara district.
