The Bajrang Dal on Saturday said they were against the screening of Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, in Guwahati.
The Bajrang Dal’s Guwahati district convener S. Gogoi told The Telegraph that they were against the screening of the movie as it has “hurt” the sentiments of the Hindu community.
Bajrang Dal volunteers on Friday night tore and burnt roadside posters of the movie in front of a cinema hall in the Narengi area during a 15-minute flash protest amid chants of Jai Shri Ram.
The movie is set to release nationwide on January 25.
Without dwelling on the objectionable parts, Gogoi said: “I don’t see any big protest happening or disruption during screening but we are planning to lodge FIRs against those screening the movie as it hurts the sentiments of the Hindu community.”
A film distributor said the film will be shown across 75 standalone halls and multiplexes in the Northeast, of which 55 will be in Assam because there is “huge curiosity” for the action-thriller which marks the return of Shah Rukh after a four-year hiatus.
“In Guwahati, 20 screens have been booked but it all depends on whether screening will be allowed or not going by what happened on Friday night,” the film distributor said.
He said the Bajrang Dal has warned against the screening of Pathaan across India because they “will not allow anybody to insult the Hindu religion, the geruwa (saffron) colour and Islamisation of Bollywood” by actors such as Shah Rukh and Aamir Khan.”
