The Assam volleyball senior men’s and women’s team were announced on Saturday after the conclusion of the 56th inter-district volleyball competition in Boko in Kamrup district on Friday night.
Altogether 15 teams in the men’s section and seven teams in the women’s section participated from all over Assam.
A total of 14 players each were selected from the men’s and women’s teams for the 68th Senior National Championship to be held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, from December 26.
The Nazira team defeated Barpeta 3-0 in the men’s final and the Golaghat team defeated Dhemaji 3-2 in the women’s final.
Among the men’s teams, Vinit Kumar from Nazira was selected the best player. He plays for the national volleyball team. Kaberi Borah from Golaghat was selected the best woman player.
The players selected for the Assam men’s team are Rajar Tomar (captain), Sashank Kr. Kandpal, Vivek Ahlowat, Dhanmoni Das, Sourav Singh Tomar, Abdul Baten, Prasant Saroha, Vinit Kumar, Mohit Sahrowat, Vinod Negi, Mohit Rathi, T. Mohammad Riyazuddin and standby players Juman Kalita and Arssisman Biswas.
The selected women players are Kaberi Borah (captain), Bhaswati Gogoi, Sunita Roy, Sangita Sarkar, Nitumoni Nath, J. Rajbongshi, Nikumoni Baruah, Debajani Bora, Purabi Kalita, Kalpana Kalita, Karabi Borah, Nikumoni Kuli and standby players Rima Dutta and Anisha Bora.
The next inter-district volleyball competition will be held at Dudhnoi in Goalpara district.
