Tutu Sonowal, 35, a vegetable farmer of Dibrugarh district, has earned Rs 2 lakh by selling vegetables during the lockdown.
Tutu, who hails from Bogoribam Borbam area of Moran and grows vegetables on his land, is selling it door-to-door during the lockdown, when people are stuck in their homes to contain Covid-19.
Talking to The Telegraph on Saturday, Tutu said, “From a very early age I have been associated with agriculture. This time I cultivated crops and vegetables on 15 bighas of land. I supplied vegetables regularly in Dibrugarh during the lockdown after the district administration permitted me to do so. I have so far earned Rs 2 lakh.”
Tutu has become an example for others to become self-sufficient. He said he delivers fresh vegetables from door to door in different areas of Dibrugarh.
“I am very happy that I can help people in this time of crisis by delivering vegetables. Agriculture is the backbone of our economy and everybody should work in this sector to strengthen our economy,” Tutu said.
He said the administration helped him to do distribute his produce in Dibrugarh.
He supplies vegetables in Naliapool, Grambazar, Moran and other areas of Dibrugarh.
The administration has taken steps to ensure that local vegetable growers do not face any loss due to the lockdown by allowing door-to-door sale of their produce.
Around 355 vegetable vendors are selling vegetables in this manner in the district since March 27.
Altogether 7,01,235kg of vegetables, worth Rs 1.40 crore, produced in the district was sold till Friday.
