The Director of Employment and Craftsman Training (DECT) under the Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship Department (SEED) signed the MoA with Info Edge (India) Limited.

Tagging Microsoft, Google India, L&T and HSSC India, the chief minister said that the signing of the MoUs would help the state to “harness” Assam’s potential in renewable energy, skill development and tourism and hospitality and help realise our dream of a developed Assam.

The incumbent state government has been laying stress on scaling up employment opportunities and skill development because it was one of its key poll promise in 2021 Assembly polls which the ruling BJP-led alliance had won comfortably. It had promised to provide one lakh government jobs within a year.

The government missed the May deadline but has “met” over 50 per cent of its target of providing government jobs and Sarma asserting in September of fulfilling its pre-poll commitment.

Monday’s signing of the agreement reflect the steps being taken by the government to meet those demands, an official said.

In his speech today, the chief minister urged the government department to help in the successful implementing of the MoUs by collecting the data, qualification and specialisation of the 12 lakh registered unemployed in the state and connect them with prospective employers.

“The MoU with Microsoft, will pave the way for building the capacity of the youth in Assam Skill Development Centres across the state. The MoU with Google India Private Ltd. will help support the government in skilling youth with job-ready digital and business skills,” the chief minister said.

He added: “While L&T will offer knowledge and support for establishing training set-up and executing Greenfield projects under construction sector, the MoU with the Healthcare Sector Skill Council (HSSC) is to mobilize the unemployed youth of Assam for skill training.”

The tie-up with Naukri.com will help provide an online platform to the unemployed youth to have their profile uploaded on digital domain to attract prospective employers.

The agreement between ATDC and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India (MSDE) and TATA Strive Skill Development Initiatives of TATA community Initiative Trust would help in the setting up of hospitality skill centre of excellence.
