The Assam government has decided to award employees connected to Mission Basundhara with a month’s basic salary for the success of the mission.

Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made the announcement here on Sunday at the concluding function of the scheme’s first phase that was launched by the state government on October 2, 2021. The second phase will start on October 2 this year.

Sarma tweeted, “Happy to announce successful completion of Mission Basundhara with a very high application disposal rate. As a mark of appreciation for their dedication & hard work, we will pay all staff connected with the Mission an amount equivalent to their one-month basic salary.”

Mission Basundhara — a flagship programme of the Assam government — was launched to streamline land-related services and make it more accessible to the public as everyone was connected with some way or the other with the revenue department where land-related issues were pending for years together.

The three components of the scheme included updating of land records, survey of 672 non-cadastral villages and resurvey of 18,789 cadastral villages. Through the mission, the government wants to weed out land brokers and make resolution of land-related issues as smooth as possible for the public. Around Rs 225 crore has been spent on the mission.

The mission included mutation by right of inheritance, partition and allocation of land patta. Mutation is a process through which ownership of land is transferred. Other services included updating and digitisation of land records, survey of non-cadastral villages, a key objective of the mission.

Sarma said government employees till circle officers will be awarded. He said the Mission has turned out to be a “resounding success” with the disposal of eight lakh of the 8.13 lakh applications received.

The announcement by Sarma came two days before his government completes its first year in office. The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) are constituents of the BJP-led government.

While analysing his government’s performance in the first year, Sarma has said his government has “unanimously” resolved to give its best to see Assam among the top five states in the country and ensure that all its welfare schemes are availed by maximum number of beneficiaries.
