Assam plus-II results better 2018 scores

Of the 178,998 students who appeared in the examination in arts, 18,575 passed in the first division

All the three streams of class XII Assam board examination have witnessed a rise in pass percentage this year. The results of the examination, conducted by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC), was announced on Saturday morning.

The arts stream recorded 75.14 pass percentage this year against 74.68 in 2018. Of the 178,998 students who appeared in the examination in arts, 18,575 passed in the first division besides 42,439 in second and 73,482 in third divisions.

The science stream recorded 86.59 pass percentage as against 85.74 in 2018. Altogether 36,469 students appeared in the examination of which 15,864 passed in first division besides 15,864 in second and 13,231 in third divisions.

Commerce, which is the least preferred subject in the state, witnessed the highest pass percentage (87.59 per cent). The figure was 84.64 in 2018. Of the 17,797 who appeared in the examination 3,769 passed in first division 5,303 in second and 6,490 in the third.

The council has also made a caste-based analysis of the results.

It revealed that in arts and science Muslims and Other Backward Classes (MOBC) fared better than those of other categories.

The pass percentage of MOBC students in arts is 85.2 per cent against 81.28 for OBC, 79.81 for general, 78.52 for SC and 76.1 for ST students.

The pass percentage for MBOC students in science is 92.95 per cent as against 92.23 for OBC, 91.36 for general, 90.70 for SC and 85.02 for ST students.

Khushboo Firdous from Brilliant Academy Junior College, Darrang, topped in arts, securing 478 (95.6 per cent) marks out of 500.

Two students topped the science stream — Sayan Mazumdar from Darrang College, Sonitpur, and Bitupan Arandhara from Ramanujan Junior college, Nagaon-— by securing 487 marks each.

Ashim Sarkar from Vivekananda Jr College, Cachar, topped in commerce securing 474 (94.8 per cent) marks.

Most of the rank-holders are students of private institutions. There is no topper from Cotton College (University) which was once a most-sought after education institution in the Northeast.

Among government institutions, Darrang College in Sonitpur earned accolade by producing one of the two toppers in science.

In commerce, city-based Gauhati Commerce College and K.C. Das Commerce College produced three rank holders each.

Although the results were available on various websites and android app, students of the rank-producing institutions rushed to their respective institutions to celebrate. Teachers felicitated the rank- holders and students cheered as TV channels trooped infor live telecast.

“The students whose results have been shown incomplete or withheld can contact the controller of examinations to get the results declared through the heads of their institutes,” said an official of the council.

An eligible candidate shall be given only one chance to appear in the compartmental examination next year. The subject in which the candidate is eligible for the compartmental examination is shown in their marksheets.

The council said the students would be able to apply online for rechecking their answerscripts in three subjects.
