The families of the three “suspected” Hmar militants” on Friday sought the registration of an FIR into the “custodial death” of their sons in Assam’s Cachar district on Wednesday for a thorough investigation as the trio had “no criminal background”.
The three suspected militants belonging to the Hmar community were apprehended by the police from an autorickshaw from near Ganganagar, Part-VI, in Assam’s Cachar district with an AK-47 rifle, a single barrel rifle, a pistol and ammunition while they were on their way to Bhuban hills in Cachar district.
The trio died of injuries they suffered during an encounter the police had with a group of suspected militants in the wee hours of Wednesday, the police said. The trio were leading the police team to the militants’ hideout, the police said.
But the family members of the deceased “militants” are not buying the police version since they requested the police to register and FIR into the custodial death of their wards.
