The parents of three-year-old Kabya Neel Sarma are happy and relieved that the state government and Samaritans have finally come forward to help them.
Abani Mohan Sarma and his wife Sapna Medhi Sarma had been pleading for help to ensure the treatment of their only child.
The Telegraph had published a report on April 19 (“Parents seek PM’s help”) which highlighted how the parents of ailing Kabya had sought help from good Samaritans and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Kabya suffers from hyperinsulmanic hypoglycemia, a heterogeneous disorder with different possible aetiologies, including hyperinsulinism, glycogen storage disorders, fatty acid disorders, hormonal deficiencies and metabolic defects.
After reading The Telegraph report, superintendent of police, Tinsukia, Shiladitya Chetia, sent a team of police officers, headed by deputy superintendent of police Samar Jyoti Bhuyan, to the boy’s residence at Lachit Nagar in Rupai Siding, 2km from Doomdooma of Tinsukia district.
Chetia deposited money for the medicines of the child in the account of a pharmacy in Rajasthan and they delivered those through courier on Monday which will soon reach here.
“We should help the needy,” Chetia told this correspondent over phone on Monday afternoon.
“Thanks to Sir (Chetia) and his team. And to all who came to help us. I requested him to keep on helping us for further treatment of my son. I want to see Kabya in good health and then I will send him to school,” Sarma added.
His wife Sapna also received a call from chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s office on Sunday. It said the CMO had noted their appeal and all possible help would be provided to them for the treatment of their child.
An executive magistrate and the election officer of Tinsukia district Saroj Sonowal too visited Kabya’s house on Monday and assured the child’s parents that the district administration would extend all possible help to them.
Some NGOs provided them with ration too. Sarma hails from Mangaldai district and resides at Lachit Nagar (Rupai Siding), 2km from here.
