Singh said the Assam police already have their social media handles on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and with the launch of the YouTube channel, they have another mode of communication to reach out to the public.

He said the police want to “strengthen” their bond with the citizens of the state and work towards a safer and more secure society.

The evening also saw the launch of the Assam police folk orchestra. A city police constable, Lankeswar Kalita, was felicitated for saving the life of a boy from committing suicide a couple of days ago.

The DGP said the YouTube channel and the various cultural initiatives taken up with the launch of the folk orchestra by the Assam police will help foster community relations and help people“understand” the functioning of the police force in a better way.

Senior police officials such as special DGP (administration) Harmeet Singh, ADGP (SB) Hiren Nath, Guwahati police commissioner Diganta Barah and DIGP (administration) Partha Sarathi Mahanta attended the event, among others.
