One Tsering Youngzam, an officer of the disaster management department, Yupia, was found dead at her residence in ESS Sector here on Friday night.

The police said the 38-year-old woman was found hanging in her bathroom around 11.30 pm on Friday.

Capital SDPO Kamdam Sikom told The Telegraph that a case of unnatural death has been lodged at the Itanagar police station.

“We can only ascertain the reason behind the death after the post mortem. The report and further investigation will tell us if it was suicide or not,” Sikom said, adding that the post-mortem was conducted on Saturday and the body of the victim has been handed to her relatives.

On rumours via social media that the officer committed suicide due to work pressure and that she was planning to resign from her job, Sikhom said: “I am not sure about the resignation part, however, according to the statement of the family members, Youngzom was stressed due to work load and was supposed to write a resignation letter to the deputy commissioner,” he said.

The SPDO said investigation revealed that Youngzom, who was serving as the Papum Pare district disaster management officer was found to be sincere and a hard-working officer. She was also actively involved in the district administration’s fight against the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.

Youngzom is survived by her husband and a kid.
