Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi submitted his voice sample at the state’s Forensic Science Laboratory at Kahilipara on Monday.

Akhil and two other KMSS leaders’, Bitu Sonowal and Dharjya Konwar’s voice samples, were wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). It claimed to have acquired telephonic conversations of them plotting conspiracies against the government.

The NIA had accused the KMSS leader of having a nexus with Maoists since 2009. Akhil was sent to judicial custody till May 13 after Gauhati High Court, in an interim order, stayed the “default” bail, which was granted by a special NIA court after the agency failed to submit a chargesheet in the case within the stipulated 90 days’ time.

The agency sources said the investigation has established the antecedents of Akhil, who had issued directions to some KMSS members in 2009 to undergo training in the Odisha unit of frontal CPI (Maoist) for a month.

His counsel, advocate Z. Kamar, said, “We have prayed for a larger bench of the high court to take up the matter as he has been kept behind bars for a long time, violating his fundamental rights.” On Monday, the high court took up the matter in a virtual court.

Akhil, while coming out of the forensic laboratory, told reporters that he has been victimised for protesting against the government and opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) vehemently.

He said, “The government is only trying to keep me behind bars without any proof.”

Akhil has been in jail since December. He demanded the overnment bring back the stranded people of the state safely and to compensate the farmers who had to bear the brunt of the lockdown.

“The farmers’ loans need to be waived off and should be given financial package,” he said.
