Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi is reportedly ‘stable” and likely to be brought to Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) for another round of check-ups on Wednesday.

He has been undergoing treatment inside Guwahati central jail.

He is currently lodged in jail following his arrest in December during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) movement in the state. He fell sick inside the jail and been suffering from severe backache, urology problem and several other ailments for over a week now.

Pranjal Kalita, the assistant general secretary of the Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti (SMSS), the students’ wing of KMSS, told The Telegraph, “There is not much improvement in his health. Luckily it did not deteriorate. Though he has been prescribed medicines, his physical ailments need special care. He will be brought to GMCH on Wednesday.”

On Saturday, Akhil, brought to the special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court, said he was “very” ill and scared that he might die. He said, “It looks like I will die inside the jail. I am very ill and need urgent and proper medical facilities.”

The NIA court had asked the jail authorities here to continue to provide adequate healthcare facilities to Akhil.

Gogoi, reportedly unable to meet his visitors in jail for the last two days due to sickness, met his family members on Tuesday.

Sources said Akhil’s medical reports have been sent to a private hospital here to get an “opinion’ from a urologist and medicine specialist.
