The Aam Aadmi Party’s Assam unit has launched a poster campaign against Narendra Modi ahead of the Prime Minister’s April 14 visit to the state while the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), a regional party, posed 14 questions on the commitments made by him and other BJP leaders to the people of the state.

Posters of Modi Hatao Desh Bachao in Assamese sprung up across many areas in the city on Sunday morning as part of the AAP’s nationwide campaign for the “removal” of Modi as Prime Minister to “save” the country. The nationwide AAP campaign was launched on Thursday.

Explaining the reasons for launching the poster campaign, senior AAP leader Kamal Kumar Medhi cited the “undermining” of the Constitution, the “targeting” of Opposition leaders by central agencies, the “worsening” condition of the common man, youth and farmers and “handing” over of national assets to businessman Gautam Adani under the Modi regime.

Medhi also highlighted how the Centre has “ignored” the Opposition demand for a JPC probe into the Hindenburg report alleging stock manipulation and accounting fraud by the Adani Group, which has refuted the charges.

“All these issues will destroy the country’s economy. We believe if the country is under an uneducated Prime Minister, the condition of the country will further worsen. That is why the AAP has launched the Modi Hatao Desh Bachao campaign,” Medhi said.

Another senior AAP leader Jayanta Kumar Kalita said the postering started from 6pm on Saturday and continued till 3am on Sunday. The campaign will continue till 2024 when the country will have its general election.

During his visit on April 14, Modi will be inaugurating and launching, among others, the AIIMS Guwahati and three medical colleges in Nagaon, Nalbari and Kokrajhar besides attending the Bihu dance organised by the state government at the Sarusajai Stadium here with the objective of entering Guinness World Record as the largest folk dance performed at one place. Around 11,000 dancers will take part in the event. He will also launch the distribution of 1.10 crore Ayushman health cards in Assam.

While the AAP launched the postering campaign, another Opposition party, the AJP, which was born out of the anti-CAA movement, posed 14 questions for Modi, reminding him of the promises he and his party leaders made to the people of Assam since 2014 when the BJP came to power in the country.

AJP General Secretary Jagadish Bhuyan told The Telegraph: “We welcome the PM visit but we would also like to remind him of his commitments and that of other party leaders made to the people of the state. We would like to know the answers about those commitments from him.”

The 14 questions posed by the AJP included:

⚫ When will the detection and deportation of illegal foreigners start?

⚫ When will constitutional protection for indigenous people be ensured?

⚫ Why did the BJP-led government take a U-turn on the Lower Subansiri NHPC hydel project?

⚫ When will the Rs 15 lakh promised by you enter bank accounts?

⚫ When will spiralling prices of essentials be controlled and when will achche din come?

⚫ When will the flood-erosion problem be solved?

⚫ Why did the commitment to revive the two paper mills in Assam not kept?

⚫ Why were 27 toll gates imposed on Assam?

⚫ Why are you silent on the state government’s conspiracy to destroy vernacular medium schools?

⚫ When will the probe into Adani Group’s financial “irregularities” start?

⚫ When will farmers’ income be doubled?

⚫ When will Assam’s special category status be restored?

⚫ When will illegal coal mines and syndicates be closed?
