If you are looking for fun and also run for a good cause in a tea estate, be there at Jalinga from Friday to Sunday.

About 100 people are expected to participate in the three-day programme which will include a half marathon, music fest, tea-tasting session and lots of other fun-filled activities.

The Jalinga tea garden in the Dwarbund area of Cachar district will organise the first ever charity run in a tea estate of the country for its workers and children on Sunday.

The entire event has been named Jalinga Tea Run. Jalinga is 34km from Silchar.

The director of Jalinga tea estate, Ketan Patel, said: “We at Jalinga want to send out a positive message to the world at large that we do care for our workers. This is our first edition and it will be an annual feature. All proceeds will go to charity and towards making a home for autistic children at Jalinga. Share our passion for a fun-filled weekend for a good cause. There would be around 50 people participating in the half marathon.”

Of the 100 people expected — and the number could increase — 75 are from the country and rest overseas.

“The participants will be a mixed lot — from planters to students and businessmen. All will be there,” Patel said.

Among the activities, there will be an exhibition rugby match, archery, kite-flying, salsa workshop and jazz band.

Jalinga is the single largest organic tea garden in the country with a total land holding of 1,100 hectares of which tea is planted in 600 hectares. It produces 8.5 lakh kg tea annually.

It is also the only carbon-neutral certified tea estate in the world and the only tea estate in the world to earn carbon credits with a no-emission cooking stove.
