The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) released about 5,000 more tickets online on `bookmyshow.com` on Saturday to cater to last minute demands of cricket enthusiasts for the one-day international between India and West Indies at ACA Stadium here on Sunday.

Announcing the release of the tickets, ACA vice-president and spokesman Devajit Saikia said: “These are tickets which were returned unsold by our affiliate district units till last evening. The 33 district units and eight playing units were allotted a total of 10,500 tickets for sale of which 30 districts have reported sold out. The others returned most of their quota as unsold, which we have released on Saturday for online sale.”

“There are tickets of almost all denominations and the sale will remain open till the first half on Sunday. The box office at Nehru Stadium, which was supposed to down the shutters on Saturday evening, will now remain open till match time on Sunday,” he said.

Saikia said the ACA was constrained to distribute complimentary passes adhering to the policy formulated by the Supreme Court, which had reserved 10 per cent of the tickets for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the host state association.

The ACA Stadium has a seat capacity of 38,727 of which 1,850 are “killed” as the ground cannot be viewed from those seats. Of the remaining 36,887 seats, the ACA reserved 3,850 tickets for complimentary passes, including 604 for the BCCI. The online vendor released 18,300 tickets for sale in the first phase on first-come-first-serve basis on October 11.

The visiting team’s dismal show in the recent test series was never a deterrent to the enthusiasts here for the ODI, which indeed is a different ball game, as far as purchasing tickets were concerned since the very first day.

The ACA had distributed about 7,000 complimentary passes for their last T20 international between India and Australia on October 10, 2017.

This will be the 14th ODI in Guwahati and the first at the ACA Stadium. The earlier matches were held at the Nehru Stadium.

The first ODI at Nehru Stadium was also between India and West Indies on December 17, 1983, in which the visitors won. The Caribbeans have played three matches so far in Guwahati and have won all of them. The last was against New Zealand on November 1, 1994.

Invitation: BCCI president C.K. Khanna on Saturday met Assam governor Jagdish Mukhi at Raj Bhavan and invited him to the match. The governor has accepted the invitation.
