At least five buses were gutted in a fire that occurred in the wee hours of Wednesday at Rajarbagh Motor Stand of Udaipur subdivision in Gomati district of Tripura, around 55km from here.

The officer-in-charge of R.K. Pur police station, Shyamal Chakraborty, told The Telegraph on Wednesday, “Around 12.10am, a fire broke out at Rajarbagh motor stand where more than 20 buses were parked. Four buses were fully charred in the fire and one partially damaged. Everyone is clueless about how this fire started. We have registered a case and are investigating the matter.”

He said the local residents informed the police and fire service officials.

“Five fire tenders from three fire stations rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control. Even the owners of the buses are clueless about how these buses were gutted. There are no eyewitnesses,” Chakraborty said.

The Udaipur subdivisional magistrate (SDM), Aniruddha Roy, said there were no security guards and no CCTVs installed in the motor stand.

“The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Transport minister Pranajit Sinha Roy visited the spot on Wednesday and held a meeting. He also directed the motor stand authorities to install CCTV and deploy a security guard,” he added.
