Four suspected cadres of the proscribed Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) were arrested by Guwahati police from ISBT in Lokhra while they were on their way to Myanmar.

On questioning, the police found four of them to be linked with the KLO.

The men revealed that they were headed to Myanmar.

The suspected cadres were identified as Deepak Barman, Dilip Narayan, Manik Barman and Dhan Ray.

Among them, Deepak had direct contact with KLO chief Jiban Singh.

He is allegedly involved in gun-running, extortion and robbery.

The other cadres, however, are new members of the organisation. Their interrogation is on.

A source said after the Bodo peace accord, the KLO has been active in certain areas and the police along with security forces are monitoring their movement in Assam.

The KLO is a militant organisation whose objective is to carve out a separate Kamtapur from India.

The proposed state envisages comprising six districts of Bengal and four contiguous districts of Assam.

The districts they have been demanding are are Cooch Behar, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, North and South Dinajpur and Malda in Bengal, and Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Dhubri and Goalpara in Assam along with Kishanganj and Jhapa in Bihar.
