Nagaon police arrested two persons for allegedly being involved in a fake currency racket and possessing a counterfeit fake currency printer from Rupohihat.
Nagaon superintendent of police Gaurav Abhijit Dilip said based on a specific information from sources, an operation was initiated at Rupahihat.
A police team raided the house of Sariful Islam in Rupohi and seized a machine that looked like a currency printer.
It was confirmed that the machine was being used by Sariful and another person named Nizam Ali to print fake notes but the machine was a fake one, and they pretended to print fake notes on it.
The police arrested them on Monday night.
Sariful is a resident of Kanchanpur in Rupohihat while Nizam is from Lakhimpur. Both of them are being questioned and the machine has been seized.
The superintendent of police added that they would first demonstrate the machine with a claim that the FICN that they were printing could never be traced.
They would hand over a real note and when the other person is convinced of the quality, they would demand a sum of real money from them in exchange for the “fake notes”.
He said when the person they were duping would come with the real money, the gang staged an act claiming that police have come and would run with the money.
The gang has been operational in many places in the state, including some places in Nagaland. Currently, the police are investigating the matter.
In another incident, one more person was arrested with Rs 1.5 lakh fake currency notes from Nagaon’s SBI point. The arrested person has been identified as Jakarul Islam Khan of Lakhimpur.
