13,000 evacuated from Manipur amid violence, provided shelter in defence set-ups

The army on Friday night said nearly 13,000 people had been rescued from violence-hit areas of Manipur and provided shelter in defence set-ups.

The army said over 100 columns were “working tirelessly towards restoring law and order in Manipur at the earliest”.

It said the rescued civilians were staying at ad hoc boarding facilities specifically set up for them within company operating bases and military garrisons.

“The Indian Army remains committed to restore law and order and appeals for peace and urges all communities to shun the path of violence,” the army said in a statement.

“Prompt response bythe security forces led to rescuing of civilians of all communities from various minority pockets of areas affected by violence. As a result of the proactive and timely response, Churachandpur, KPI, Moreh and Kakching are now under firm control with no major violence reported since yesterday night,” the statement added.
