HBO just dropped the teaser for The Idol, the series from The Weeknd and Euphoria creator Sam Levinson, that stars Lily-Rose Depp, Troye Sivan, Tunde Adebimpe, and Blackpink’s Jennie. The show follows a female pop star as she becomes entangled with an LA-based self-help guru.
The Weeknd himself stars as the male lead, while Depp plays his romantic interest. The trailer teases raunchy encounters between the two leads, drug-fueled parties, and a glimpse at LA’s celebrity culture. The Idol is being touted as ‘the sleaziest love story in all of Hollywood.’
The series had to undergo a creative overhaul early this year after The Weeknd was left unhappy with the direction the series had taken. Director Amy Seimetz exited the show soon after. The Idol is being developed as a six-episode series but does not have an official release date yet.
