For three decades, until 1980, one name ruled Bengali cinema: Uttam Kumar. With his charming boy-next-door looks and indomitable style, there only ever was one Mahanayak, and there never will be one quite like him.
To celebrate the iconic actor’s 43rd death anniversary, Srijit Mukherji unveiled the trailer prevue of Oti Uttam. The film revolves around a researcher who undertakes his most challenging topic yet, Uttam Kumar, and seeks the help of the actor’s spirit after facing romantic rejection. The project is full of passion, with Mukherji confessing that he rewatched 62 of Kumar’s films frame-by-frame in order to bring the actor to life through VFX. The film also stars Gourab Chatterjee, who is the legendary actor’s grandson. While an exact date of release isn’t known, the film is expected to hit screens this December.
