Mahishasur Marddini examines women’s issues against the backdrop of Durga Puja

Writer-director Ranjan Ghosh is paying a unique tribute to Durga this October with his upcoming film, Mahishasur Marddini. Featuring parallel storylines that revolve around the gangrape and murder of a young girl a night before Durga Puja commences, and the discovery of an infant girl abandoned in a garbage bin while the preparations for the festival continue in the backdrop, this film is set to be a brutally honest portrayal of the struggles faced by women in society.
Featuring an stellar cast, which includes Rituparna Sengupta, Saswata Chatterjee, Parambrata Chattopadhyay and Shaheb Bhattacherjee, the film will be a tribute to the hardships women continue to face to this day, set against a festival that worships a powerful female form.
