Humour is an integral part of the queer rights
movement. Netflix’s latest documentary explores this liberating power of
humour, and how it has allowed the queer community to reclaim power. Outstanding:
A Comedy Revolution follows multiple prominent stand-up comedians from the
community like Sandra Bernhard, Tig Notaro, Eddie Izzard, Lily Tomlin, Mae
Martin. The trailer shows these performers reflecting upon how the art form has
helped them change the world, and allowed them to find confidence in their
identity. The theme of this documentary epitomises how comedy speaks truth to
power. Releasing on June 18, this promises to be an enlightening and
entertaining watch!
