Disney’s animated films weren’t just revolutionary for their iconic visuals, but their powerful soundtrack. The first thing that comes to mind at any mention of the original 1994 The Lion King is ‘Nant's Ingonyama Bagithi Baba!’, from the song, Circle of Life. As the film’s universe expands with the prequel-sequel to its 2019 live-action adaptation (Mufasa: The Lion King), Disney dropped some BTS footage from a reel, promising much of the same musical magic this time around.
The reel features director Barry Jenkins and music director Lin-Manuel Miranda gushing over Lebo M Morake, who was behind the music of the original animated film, and returned to add his unique flavour to the new film. Lebo also added that the music will take the cinematic experience to the next level, making for a deeply spiritual and emotional watch. The clip is a great easter egg for nostalgic fans, who will find a fitting tribute to the film that started it all.
