The recently released trailer of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy takes the audience back into the world of the British heroine, once again portrayed by Renée Zellweger. In this fourth and final instalment, Bridget faces an emotionally difficult chapter as she grieves for her late husband, Mark Darcy, played by Colin Firth, who tragically lost his life during a humanitarian mission in Sudan. With two young children and a heart full of memories, Bridget is learning to cope with loss while still hoping to find companionship. Opening with her reflection, “There are memories that will never leave us... sometimes those memories are suddenly all that we are left with,” the trailer sets a poignant tone while maintaining the series’ signature blend of humour and heartache.
Based on Helen Fielding’s novels, Mad About the Boy continues the rom-com legacy that began with Bridget Jones’s Diary in 2001, followed by The Edge of Reason (2004) and Bridget Jones’s Baby (2016). Directed by filmmaker Michael Morris, this final chapter brings back familiar faces, including Hugh Grant as Daniel Cleaver and Emma Thompson as Dr Rawlings — promising fans another round of charming romance mixed with Bridget’s well-loved misadventures. We have been really waiting for this one, were you?
