Dancer and actor Sreenanda Shankar recently visited veteran actor Victor Banerjee at the latter’s Kolkata residence. There, Sreenanda also revisited a painting by Bikash Bhattacharjee that holds a dear place in her heart. The oil painting that captures Rabindranath Tagore, Satyajit Ray and Victor Banerjee in one frame denotes the coming together of Ghare Baire, the novel by Tagore and the film by Ray, connected by Victor — the actor in the film.
In the film, Victor Banerjee plays the character of Nikhilesh Choudhury and the role of his wife, Bimala is played by Swatilekha Sengupta. The story is about the struggle of the couple’s relationship with the entry of another character, Sandip Mukherjee, played by Soumitra Chatterjee. You can watch this masterpiece of a film on YouTube.
Sreenanda visited Victor and his wife Maya Banerjee with her mother Tanushree Shankar, who was also Victor’s co-actor in the film Dui Prithibi (1980). Interesting fact, Sreenanda’s father Ananda Shankar was the music composer of the Pijush Bose directorial. Planning a rewatch of both the films over the weekend?
