India’s win in Barbados
sent social media into a frenzy, as celebrities from all walks of life
took to Instagram and Twitter to congratulate the Men in Blue. From Anushka Sharma, Salman Khan, Alia Bhatt, Mahesh Babu, Ayushmann Khurrana to former Indian World Cup winners Yuvraj Singh, Sachin Tendulkar — and even MS Dhoni (with his first post since 2023) were among the first few to post
congratulatory messages. Not just actors and cricketers, even celebrity chef Ranveer Brar wished the Indian Cricket Team on becoming two-time T20 World Cup
Champions.
Seventeen years ago,
India won the very first T20 World Cup finals in Johannesburg under MS Dhoni’s
captaincy, with a young Rohit Sharma in the squad. On June 29, the same Rohit
Sharma led India to victory in Barbados, lifting the title once again. While
Virat Kohli picked up the Player of the Match award for his 76 runs off 59 balls, Jasprit Bumrah earned the Player of the Tournament trophy for his 15 wickets.
Hardik Pandya played a crucial
role taking 3 wickets and defending 16 runs in the final over to give India a
7-run victory over South Africa.
Fans
experienced mixed emotions as India lifted an ICC trophy for the first time
since 2013, while on the other hand two of the modern greats, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, announced their
retirement from T20 international on a high.
