Within a month, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus OTT Series Heeramandi has become one of the most watched shows on Netflix, crafting a rich and opulent world around the courtesans who participated in India’s freedom struggle. In addition to Bhansali’s larger than life backdrop, the show’s ensemble cast also shone bright, comprising names like Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha and Sanjeeda Sheikh. This dream team is set to return once again, as the streaming giant green-lit the show for a second season!
Netflix announced the new season in style — with a flash mob. In a clip shared on social media, Mumbai’s seafront Carter Road is taken over by a group of elegant dancers, who paid homage to the show’s themes with an elaborately choreographed piece by Kruti Mahesh. The performers grooved to some of the show’s biggest musical numbers — many of which have been going viral on reels — like Sakal Ban and Tilasmi Baahein. The voiceover further hinted that the struggle of the women in the show never ended, and after the events of the first season, the tawaifs would now begin a new fight to live in a new world with their head held high.
