Two medals within a matter of few hours was no mean feat for
India. The Indian men’s hockey team won their second consecutive Olympic
bronze, with one of India’s greatest goalkeepers playing his final game for the
nation. PR Sreejesh, the Great Wall of
Indian Hockey, bid
farewell to the sport with a bronze medal as his teammates made the farewell
special. Along with
netizens who have been pouring in their congratulatory messages, My Kolkata
congratulates the Indian hockey team on their achievement and PR Sreejesh for a
career that will go down in history.
Heartiest
congratulations to Neeraj Chopra as well who finished 2nd and became the first Indian track and field
athlete to bring medals in two consecutive games. Despite Arshad Nadeem’s
record-breaking throw of 92.97m taking gold, Chopra delivered his season’s best
throw of 89.45m to win silver.
After Manu Bhaker, Sarabjot Singh and Swapnil Kusale won bronze medals in shooting, Neeraj Chopra’s
silver and the men’s hockey team’s bronze take India’s medal tally to five. This
marks India’s second-best Olympic campaign to date, with a chance to surpass
the seven medals from Tokyo.
