It’s been an emotional few days since the Indian Cricket team lifted the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Barbados on June 29. While we celebrate Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s retirement from T20 Internationals on a high note, Ravindra Jadeja also announced his retirement from the format. Amid these farewells, an absolute legend of Indian cricket finally lifted a World Cup trophy after years of heartbreak. Under Rahul Dravid’s captaincy, India made an early exit from the ODI World Cup in the West Indies in 2007. Now, the Wall of Indian cricket has finally claimed a world cup title.
In his last match as head coach of the Indian Men’s cricket team, Rahul Dravid showed more emotion than fans have ever seen. Achieving the dream of his lifetime, Dravid gave an emotional speech in the dressing room, his last as head coach. He spoke about the sacrifices of every player and thanked each individual, from the players to the support staff and management. Dravid reserved special thanks for Captain Rohit, recalling how Rohit had called him after the loss in Ahmedabad to ask him not to step down as coach just yet.
As India bids farewell to some of the best individuals the T20 format has seen, a special place in our hearts goes out to Rahul Dravid, the Great Wall of Indian cricket, for his years of dedication to taking Team India forward. What better way to say farewell than by bringing a long-missing trophy back home? Take a look at Dravid’s dressing room speech — we can assure you, there won’t be a dry eye after that.
