Arun Roy, of Egaro and Hiralal fame, is set to make a film on Sunil Gangopadhyay’s Aranyer Din Ratri — a novel about four friends who venture into a journey of self-discovery in the forests of Palamu. The novel was, of course, adapted into a cult film by Satyajit Ray, starring Soumitra Chatterjee, Sumit Bhanja, Aparna Sen and Rabi Ghosh. Roy’s film, however, is being treated as an ode to Gangopadhyay’s novel and may not be a remake of Ray’s 1970 classic.
The film is scheduled to release by next year’s Puja and is set to star Jeetu Kamal (who rose to mainstream fame when he played Ray in Anik Dutta’s film Aparajito), Sohini Sarkar, Kinjal, Arna Mukherjee, besides others. “Overjoyed to reveal the first look of #AranyerDinRatri- looking forward to all your love so that we can carry forward the legacy of Sri Sunil Gangopadhyay & Sri Satyajit Ray,” Jeetu wrote on Instagram.
