Born on 29 May 2006,
Gukesh Dommaraju has already carved his name in history. Along with the entire
nation, My Kolkata celebrates Gukesh’s remarkable achievement of
becoming the youngest-ever World Champion in chess. It was an emotional moment
for the 18-year-old from Chennai, when he beat China’s Ding Liren at the FIDE
World Chess Championship.
With this victory, Gukesh not only became the youngest World Champion but also the second Indian after Vishwanathan Anand and the third Asian to claim the coveted title after Anand and Ding Liren. The 18th World Champion is
part of a cohort of exceptionally talented Indian Grandmasters, representing
what can truly be called a Golden Generation for Indian chess.
My Kolkata congratulates Gukesh on his unparalleled
accomplishment and wishes him continued success in years to come. We cannot
wait to see what this young wiz has in store for the chess world next.
