In a heartfelt moment on the sets of Anees Bazmee directorial Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, Vidya Balan and co-star Rajesh Sharma took a break between scenes to recite lines from a popular verse from Abol Tabol, the iconic Bengali poem collection by Sukumar Ray. Balan shared the video of the recital on Instagram, where the pair is seen fondly recounting memories of how her “bondhu” Sharma had taught her the humorous yet thought-provoking poem Sat Patra years ago.
A cornerstone of Bengali literature, Sukumar Ray’s famous nonsense verse collection Abol Tabol, completed 100 years in 2023, and remains one of the most loved and widely read Bengali children’s books. Sat Patra is a hilarious yet poignant picture of the times this book was composed in when the many vices of a suitable groom could be overlooked on account of his family line — Kansha raja’r bongshodhor (a descendant of royals).
Rajesh Sharma’s impeccable diction is especially commendable, while Balan does a stellar job of remembering lines she learnt almost a decade ago. The duo, who seemed to have had a blast reminiscing old times in the video, have collaborated on many projects including Parineeta, Ishqiya, and The Dirty Picture, before Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. The movie also stars Kartik Aaryan, Madhuri Dixit, and Tripti Dimri alongside Balan.
